Patrik Barkham was born in 1975 in Norfolk, for more than ten years he has been writing about natural history in the Guardian, were he has reported on everything from the war in Irac to climate change.

Barkhams passion for butterflies started in his childhood but it wasn´t until 2009 he got to achieve his childhood goal of seeing all of Great Britains 59 different species of butterflies during one summer and write a book about it, The butterfly ilses.

His latest book Islanders is about all of the inhabitants, animals and humans of the British isles.
